Pixstar Provides Food Assistance to Families In Need

Delaware IT Firm Helps Fellow Delawareans through the Mobile Pantry Program

Lewes, Del – On June 11th, Pixstar participated in this year’s Mobile Pantry Program which took place at the Jefferson Apartments in Lewes.  This event marked Pixstar’s continued support and commitment to the Food Bank of Delaware.  In partnership with their member agencies, the Mobile Pantry provides food assistance to families and individuals who do not have access to transportation.  A Food Bank vehicle travels to a selected location in an underserved area of the community and distributes food to low-income households.  These meal boxes consist of donated food items such as canned and packaged goods that are sufficient to feed a family of three to four for up to four days.

Pixstar’s association with the Food Bank of Delaware is more than just simply helping families in need.  It’s about making real change in people’s lives.  As part of Pixstar’s community outreach, CEO and Founder, George Reissig states “It is incumbent upon all of us who are so fortunate to assist those in need during these difficult and challenging economic times.”  Pixstar’s continued commitment to this cause is a way to bring awareness to the fact that families across the state require emergency food assistance, especially at a time with high record unemployment.  Providing these families with food donations is one more way in which Pixstar contributes to alleviating the hunger issue in the state.

Pixstar’s commitment to help lessen the hunger issue is part of a larger federal initiative.  The American Recovery Reinvestment Act of 2009, more commonly known as the stimulus package, provides an additional $300 million for states to administer the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that extends into funding for food banks, pantries, etc.  Roughly $150 million from the stimulus package has been allocated directly to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Emergency Food Assistance Program, known as TEFAP.  This program sends shipments of federally purchased food items to states, which in turn are delivered to food banks and subsequently delivered to food pantries and soup kitchens nationwide.

Despite this assistance, many food bank organizations depend heavily on private and corporate giving which are significantly down this year.  As Delaware-based companies such as Pixstar are encouraged to join in the goal of combating hunger, the sooner the vision of a community free of hunger can be reached.

Pixstar has pledged and donated a total of 790 pounds of food items and $4,675 of monetary support to the Food Bank of Delaware in 2009.  It appears that Pixstar will exceed its goal of 1000 pounds this year in anticipation of supporting additional food drives scheduled this fall.
